Shenam Ticku, BDS, MPHShenam Ticku, BDS, MPH, is currently an instructor in Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Ticku conducts research on behalf of the Office of Global and Community Health at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, HSDM’s Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine, and the Center for Integration of Primary Care and Oral Health (CIPCOH). Born in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, Ticku grew up all over the world and attended school in New Delhi, India, and Gaborone, Botswana. After graduating from high school, Ticku trained in dentistry at the J.S.S Dental College in Mysore, Karnataka, India. Initiative Collaboration with the FDI World Dental Federation and ICHOM Leads to Adult Oral Health Standard Set

Members of the Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine, including Jane Barrow, MS, associate dean for Global and Community Health and executive director of the Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), recently collaborated with the FDI World Dental Federation and the International Consortium for Health Outcome Metrics (ICHOM) to develop a baseline standardized set of patient-centered outcomes for adult oral health. Hawazin Elani, PhD, assistant professor of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences at HSDM, and Lisa Simon, DMD, MD, consulted during the planning phase. Titled, "Developing a standard set of patient‐centred outcomes for adult oral health – an international, cross‐disciplinary consensus," the article was published in July of 2020. Creating a data-driven minimum Adult Oral Health Standard Set (AOHSS) for use in clinical practice, research, advocacy and population health will ultimately help patients and providers make more collaborative and informed decisions about treatment and care.... Russell Phillips, MD, Brings His Expertise in Primary Care to Integration Efforts

Dr. Russell Phillips headshotRussell Phillips, MD, is the William Applebaum Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, as well as a professor of Global Health and Social Medicine. Phillips is also the director of Harvard Medical School’s Center for Primary Care. A graduate of MIT and Stanford Medical School (BIDMC), Phillips did his residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in General Medicine and Primary Care.

After becoming interested in the quality of patient care, Phillips began work on a national study aimed at improving care for seriously ill patients, and a study funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) on the quality of care for Asian Americans. Phillips eventually became the director of the research program in the Division of General Medicine at BIDMC and led the Harvard Fellowship Program in General Medicine, even starting a new fellowship program on the investigation of complementary and integrative therapies. In 2002, Phillips became division chief of the Division of General Medicine at BIDMC. In 2012, he transitioned to the role of director at the Center for Primary Care at Harvard Medical School (HMS), where he met Dr. Bruce Donoff, DMD67, MD73, and first became interested in oral health integration into primary care.... Dr. Nathaniel Treister, DMD, DMSc, Brings His Expertise in Oral Medicine to the Integration of Oral Health and Primary Care

Dr. Nathaniel Treister, DMD, DMScDr. Nathaniel Treister, DMD, DMSc, has brought his time, his talents, and his expertise in Oral Medicine to the Initiative to Integrate Oral Health and Medicine since its inception. After receiving his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Treister ventured to Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM), where he received his Doctor of Medical Science in Oral Biology, as well as a certificate in Oral Medicine. Upon completing his oral medicine training, he joined the faculty in the Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), where he has worked full-time since 2005.

Treister currently serves as the division chief and associate surgeon at BWH, as the clinical director in Oral Medicine and Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, and consults at Boston Children’s Hospital. On top of all that, Treister is an associate professor of Oral Medicine in the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity at HSDM. Treister is board certified in Oral Medicine with special interest in oral mucosal diseases, salivary gland diseases, orofacial pain disorders, and oral complications in cancer patients.
